Padre Island National Seashore
$10/person (single-day pass, ages 16+) / $25/vehicle (7-day pass)
Parks & Nature
The longest undeveloped barrier island in the world, Padre Island National Seashore stretches 70 miles of pristine Gulf Coast beach with almost no development in sight — just open sky, crashing waves, and vast coastal wilderness. The park is a critical nesting habitat for the endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle, and in summer the NPS hosts public sea turtle releases that are among the most memorable wildlife experiences in Texas.
Address: 20420 Park Rd 22, Corpus Christi, TX 78418
Tip: The 7-day vehicle pass at $25 is the best deal if you're staying more than a day. The first 5 miles from the entrance (Malaquite Beach) are paved and accessible; beyond that is primitive 4WD beach driving. Sea turtle hatching season runs June–August — check nps.gov/pais for public release event dates. Bring sunscreen, extra water, and beach chairs. Fishing is excellent along the surf.
