Presque Isle State Park
Free
Parks & Nature
Presque Isle is a sandy peninsula jutting 7 miles into Lake Erie, forming one of the most visited state parks in Pennsylvania and one of the best free outdoor destinations in the entire Great Lakes region. Thirteen miles of paved multi-use trails wind through diverse ecosystems — sandy beaches, marshes, dunes, and forest — with 11 designated swimming beaches open in summer. Birdwatchers know it as one of the top migration hotspots in the eastern US, with hundreds of species recorded annually.
Address: 301 Peninsula Dr, Erie, PA 16505
Tip: Beach 6 and Beach 11 are the most popular swimming spots — arrive early on summer weekends. Rent a bike from the park's rental stand near the Rotary Pavilion to cover more ground. Sunsets over Lake Erie from the peninsula's western tip are spectacular.

Erie Maritime Museum & US Brig Niagara
$10 general / $7 seniors (65+) / $5 ages 3–11 / free under 3
History & Culture
The Erie Maritime Museum tells the story of the Battle of Lake Erie — the pivotal 1813 naval victory that secured American control of the Great Lakes during the War of 1812. The centerpiece is the US Brig Niagara, a fully restored and operational tall ship that was reconstructed as a faithful replica of Commodore Perry's flagship. Museum admission includes access to the ship when it's in port, and the Niagara still sails on Lake Erie for day and weekend voyages throughout the season.
Address: 150 E Front St, Erie, PA 16507
Tip: Check the schedule before visiting — the Niagara sails frequently in summer and may not be in port. If you can time a day sail on the Niagara (separate ticket), it's an unforgettable experience. The museum is open year-round but the ship is most accessible May through September.
