Since 2005, the city has permitted artists to paint the privately owned walls along this single block, creating one of the most photographed free outdoor art experiences in the Midwest — and it changes every few weeks.

Museum of Geology at South Dakota Mines

A full-scale replica of Norway's 850-year-old Borgund stavkirke — an intricate wooden stave church — set on a wooded hillside on the western edge of Rapid City. Visitors can walk through the chapel, the adjacent Stabbur log cabin museum of Norwegian artifacts, and a quiet meditation prayer path through the pines. The grounds are open daily during the May–September season.
