One of the most pleasant free walks on the North Carolina coast, it's a natural anchor for any budget day in the city.

Tip: Early morning and sunset are the best times for river views without crowds. The riverwalk is open 24/7. Free public parking available in nearby city lots. Watch for large cargo ships and tugboats passing on the Cape Fear River.

This free 7-acre botanical garden features over 30 specialty gardens, a koi pond, seasonal flower displays, walking paths, and a children's play area β all beautifully maintained by New Hanover County. An often-overlooked gem that rivals much larger paid botanical gardens in the region.

A magnificent 67-acre historic garden on Bradley Creek featuring sweeping lawns, sculpture installations, lake views, and the famous 467-year-old Airlie Oak β one of the oldest living trees on the East Coast. The seasonal Bottle Chapel, built entirely from recycled bottles, is one of the most unusual outdoor art installations in the South.
