Nevada's cultural scene reaches well beyond the casinos, and a good chunk of it is free. In Reno, the Nevada Museum of Art — the state's only accredited art museum — charges $15, but opens its doors free to everyone on the second Saturday of every month through its Estelle J. Kelsey 'Hands ON!' program, with art activities, storytelling, and docent tours. Down in Las Vegas, the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art at UNLV is the only free art museum in the city (a $5 donation is suggested), and in Henderson the Clark County Museum — a 30-acre campus of historic houses and a ghost-town railroad depot — became free for all ages in 2025.
Carson City is the budget-museum capital: the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center, the Nevada State Capitol, and the Brewery Arts Center galleries are all free, and on Nevada Day weekend (October 25–26) the state-run Nevada State Museum and Nevada State Railroad Museum waive admission entirely. Many Nevada museums also offer a discounted Nevada-resident rate — Springs Preserve drops from $18.95 to $9.95, and the DISCOVERY Children's Museum offers $5 admission to EBT cardholders through Museums for All. Note that two free venues are briefly closed for summer work: the Barrick reopens August 25, 2026.
