Idaho doesn't have a dense big-city museum scene, but the museums it does have are unusually easy on the wallet. The anchor is the Boise Art Museum in Julia Davis Park, which makes admission 'pay what you can' all day on the first Thursday of each month (and free for seniors on the third Wednesday). Over in Idaho Falls, the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho waives its admission on the first Saturday of every month. And several of the state's best art and science stops — the Sun Valley Museum of Art in Ketchum, the Herrett Center's galleries in Twin Falls, and the Idaho Museum of Mining & Geology in Boise — are simply free every day they're open.
A few more ways to stretch an Idaho museum budget: many of the larger venues take part in the SNAP/EBT 'Museums for All' program (admission of $1–$5 with a benefits card) and Bank of America's 'Museums on Us' (free the first full weekend of each month for cardholders, including at the Boise Art Museum). The Idaho State Museum and Idaho Museum of Natural History also offer free admission to active-duty military families through Blue Star Museums each summer, and the first-Thursday gallery walk in downtown Boise opens many private galleries for free after hours.
